Barbara DuRant is an abstract painter living and working in Hudson, New York. Each painting begins on a square wood panel with penciled grid lines, then builds in layers of oil, cold wax medium and charcoal until the grid gives way to gesture and process.

Born in the South, she studied at the University of Florida, the Bank Street College Graduate Program in Museum Studies and the Ringling School of Art. She taught art for twenty-five years and has painted, exhibited and sold her work for most of her adult life.
